Its origin: In ancient Chinese mythology, there are 33 layers of heaven, and the Jade Emperor lives in the 32rd layer. One day, he ordered 12 animals to be appointed as immortals and asked them to protect the common people corresponding to the birth years. Thus, this origin.

The 12 zodiac animal heads were born in the **Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty**, originally placed in the Haiyan Hall of Yuanmingyuan in Beijing. They were the water spouts of an European-style fountain. They were jointly designed and cast by Chinese and Western craftsmen. The 12 animal heads correspond to the 12 hours of the day. At each hour, the corresponding zodiac animal would spray water. At noon, all 12 animal heads would spray water at once, forming a magnificent scene in Yuanmingyuan at that time.

In 1860, Yuanmingyuan was attacked by the Eight-Nation Alliance, and was burned, looted and destroyed. The 12 zodiac animal heads were plundered overseas and scattered. After nearly 200 years, the national treasures have been transferred and returned. Some have returned to China, while some are still scattered in foreign countries. The country's backwardness led to being attacked. Now that China has become powerful, but there are only 7 of the national treasures, and they are still missing.
